Why you should use ABS:
- Material That is FDA Compliant
- Material has Good Mechanical Properties
- Very High Impact Strength
- It is Bondable / Weldable to itself
- Cuts well with standard cutting tools
- Material is Paintable, Machinable, and Heat / Vacuum Formable
- Same material as Black Drain Pipe used in homes
While ABS is a wonderful mechanical plastic, so is Acetal. Here is a comparison: ABS versus Acetal/ Delrin.
ABS Rod and ABS Sheet are very strong and tough, and applicable to be used in most general purpose applications. Good dimensional stability and machining properties. Available is wide range of sizes in both sheet and rod, and custom formulations and sizes.
This materials is…high impact and has a heat deflection of 190°F. It is easily bondable and paintable with common acrylic or latex paints or can be silk-screened. Thin gauge material (.040″ – .250″) is available with a haircell texture on one side, and smooth on the other.
- Durable and impact resistant
- Easy to machine
- Dimensionally stable
- Bondable, welds well with solvents or heat
- FDA compliant for contact with food

“I love that I can machine this stuff easily, and it also can be bonded together. Thanks” – Thomas F.
“It is really cool that ABS is FDA approved. I use Black ABS to machine custom fluid handling valve bodies, and it machines really well for me.” – Luis M.
“My company uses the machine grade ABS in producing large models. We can cut and glue this material very easily, and we sand and paint the final parts. They come out great.” – Ricky C.
